Community Consultative Committee (CCC)
West Wallsend Underground (WWU) is managed by Glencore, and is a modern underground longwall mine located approximately 15 kilometres from Newcastle in Lake Macquarie.
On the 25th January 2012 approval was received from Department of Planning and Infrastructure (DP&I) for continued operations at West Wallsend Underground.
As part of this approval, West Wallsend Underground was required to establish a Community Consultative Committee (CCC).
The CCC was established in 2012 and provides a forum for open discussion between representatives of WWU, community members, the local council and other stakeholders on issues that directly relate to West Wallsend Underground's environmental and community performance.
In 2018 the West Wallsend Underground CCC was changed to the Macquarie Coal Complex Community Consultative Committee and now encompasses the former Westside Open Cut Mine and former Teralba Underground Mine.
Lake Macquarie City Council Councillor Wendy Harrison is the Chair of the CCC, she can be contacted with any enquiries on Ph 0409 775 432 regarding the activities of the Committee.
Any community complaints or enquiries should be directed to the Oceanic Coal Australia Pty Limited (OCAL) Environment and Community Manager on (02) 4941 2163 during business hours.
